Nephrite
North America Heavenly King
PAST LIFE.
Nephrite was a respected and high-ranking man of the Earth Kingdom, in charge of the North America area, a companion and retainer of Earth's prince, Endymion, and known for his strength, prowess and loyalty. He died with his comrades in the war between the Moon and Earth Kingdom.
PRESENT LIFE - DARK KINGDOM.
Revived by the Dark Kingdom’s queen, Beryl, he had no memories of his past life and was under a spell that bound his loyalty and love to her. After repeated failures at his missions and gettting beaten up by provoking a fight with Kunzite and Dark Mercury, Beryl got fed up and banished him from her sight.
Despite Beryl's continual dismissal of him, Nephrite's loyalty never wavered. Dark Mercury took pity on him and brought him a new cape to replace his torn one. Despite accepting it with some reluctance, he treasured it, and when Sailor Moon freed Mercury from the Dark Kingdom's control, it was Nephrite who prevented Kunzite from killing her.
After some time being completely ignored by Beryl, he was desperate to reaffirm his loyalty and value when she called him back. Unfortunately, the queen’s plan was to use the generals as hostages to get Endymion to come to the Dark Kingdom. Nephrite had failed too much, and him saving Mercury may have sealed his fate, so he was sacrificed by Beryl to prove that she really would hurt them if the prince did not come with her.
PRESENT LIFE - HUMAN WORLD.
Nephrite reappeared in the human world, in human form, without any powers but superhuman strength. He ended up bumping into a man called Motoki, who found him a place to live and a job at Crown Karaoke. Clumsy in his human form and extremely angry at the world at large, he spent a good deal of his time taking out his frustration on both Motoki and the various equipment at Crown until Mercury, in her human form as Mizuno Ami, treated him with kindness, which sent him moping again.
Hot-tempered: He gets angry easily, and reacts to anything that bruises his ego with violence. But due to his irritable mood, people tend to have a lot of fun at teasing him, be it good-natured/friendly teasing or ironies/battle taunting. Nephrite will get angry always and it’s fun for the others to provoke him.
Jealous: Nephrite competed with Jadeite for Beryl’s attention and favors, and tried to lessen her opinion about the other generals by badmouthing them.
Eager to please: His main motivation is always to please whoever he is following. He hardly does anything for himself, but would do anything his master ordered.
Insecure: The main source of his insecurities was his constant failure at the tasks he received and the consequent rejection by Beryl, despite all his dedication and love for her. Adding to it, he can’t remember his past life, what makes him the only who doesn’t fully understand what is happening around him. When he got turned into a human, he didn’t know how to keep his strength at bay, breaking things at his workplace and being overall clumsy.
Persistent: Despite innumerous failings, he kept trying his best to succeed at a mission and get praise from Beryl. And though she only ridiculed and yelled at him, nothing made him stop following her until she made him stab himself. Even then, he begged to go back to the Dark Kingdom until he finally adjusted to human life.
Honor: As he got kindness from Ami, he became almost obsessed with trying to repay her. He saved her from Kunzite and when he became human, even made an effort to stop breaking things at work to save money to buy her a gift. He also mentions honor as why he wants to return to the Dark Kingdom. He sees abandoning Beryl, the Dark Kingdom and the other Shitennou as dishonorable.
Pride: Most of Nephrite’s running away comes from a form of pride. He hates being humiliated in front of someone else, especially someone he wants to impress like Beryl (he is very angry when the other Shitennou, especially Kunzite, humiliates him in front of her) or Ami (getting angry at Motoki’s nicknames because they embarrass him in front of others).
Follower: He gets lost without someone to serve. He needed a leader who could appeal to his over-the-top emotions rather than treating him as an underling.
Sulky: Whenever he gets too frustrated or confused, he’ll find a dark corner to hide and mope.
FEARS.
His constant failure in completing the tasks Beryl asked and the way she used him later gave room to the growing fear of not being good enough for anything. And even if he doesn’t like being a human, he’s afraid he can’t even do this.
WEAKNESSES.
Impulsiveness: Nephrite is impulsive and has trouble understanding and controlling his emotions. If confused or irritated, his way of letting out is breaking things or provoking fights.
Competitive: If taunted, he will accept any challenge, not even considering situation or his chances of winning.
Insecurity: He needs someone to dedicate his efforts to, and will hardly do anything just for himself. But the insecurity that comes with all his failures and the fear of not being good for anything makes him quite desperate to please the people he chooses to devout himself to. If those people want him to do something, he’ll do it, what makes him easily manipulable.
